Message

Digitus Dei est Hic (The finger of God is here)! These words, written by Rev. Fr. Mahe, S.J., in his diary when he was at St. Xavier’s College during the 1920s, have stood the test of time. St. Xavier’s College has striven since 1923 to inculcate a spirit of service along with the academic development of students. Our aim is to provide a holistic educational environment which will help our students attain personality development, research quality and academic excellence. Our solemn commitment is to take the fruits of higher education to the marginalized sections of the society, ensuring equity and social justice.

In order to keep pace with the developments in the fast changing global scenario, we have implemented ICT-enabled pedagogic strategies, enriching the learning experiences of students. The faculty and students use ICT tools optimally. The student-centered teaching process ensures participative and experiential learning. IQAC of our college conducts training programmes to help the faculty update their knowledge, prepare e-content materials and combine tradition with modernity. Faculty members are engaged in research activities as it is evident from the number of research papers published in National and International journals. Institutional goals are effectively translated into the academic programmes, research and extension activities. INDECO, an inter-departmental cultural competition which promotes team work, is a great source of inspiration for students. Academic Festival is an inter-collegiate competition organized every year by all the departments. Training programmes are organized by Placement Cell in collaboration with employers. We have designed the curriculum so as to centre on the “person” rather than on the “material to be covered.” Each student is allowed to develop and to accomplish objectives at a pace suited to individual ability and the characteristics of his or her own personality. Cura personalis is our principle.

With all our achievements at hand, we are still to go miles, with the spirit of Tennyson’s Ulysses: “To strive, to seek, to find and not to yield.” Our focus is on the Ignatian concept of magis.
