About The Department

The Department of Archaeology was started in June 2024 in the Self-Finance course. The department offers an undergraduate program in archaeology.

The Department of Archaeology typically focuses on the study of prehistory, proto-history, and the early historic period through the excavation, analysis, and interpretation of material remains, as well as historical period records like inscriptions, art, architecture, and numismatics. The department works with museums, cultural heritage organizations, and other academic institutions. Engage in multi-disciplinary research with departments like Anthropology, History, Tamil, Geology, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology.

Programme Specific Outcomes

  • To enhance the students' knowledge through outreach programs, workshops, and lectures to share findings and promote the importance of cultural heritage.
  • To study the past human culture through material remains.
  • To read the ancient Indian scripts like Tamil Brahmi, Vatteluthu, Grantha, etc.
  • Provide hands-on training for students through the estampage process of Inscription & field archaeology to learn excavation techniques and recording methods.
  • To study the art and architecture with its historical background.
  • The Department mainly connects with the Exploration and Excavation to train the students.
